HISTORY & ORIGIN
Troy Elmore: The Re-Dialer is inspired by Rich Pavel’s split-keel quad setup. Growing up, I was always intrigued by Rich’s split-keel fishes, almost in a humorous way — “What are those things? They look like windsurfing fins.” Not realizing at the time that it was actually a keel broken apart. Once I understood what was going on, it became a game changer for having a box-fin fish. Personally, I’ve never really loved box-fin twins — it always felt like I was discrediting the fish — but this setup didn’t feel like I was breaking any rules. When I first shaped one with Rich, it made so much sense in his RP blank. Surfing it was mind-blowing. It felt like it had more speed and maneuverability than my fish, while still having so much hold. Rich always described them as feeling like ball bearings — they roll over so easily and smoothly — and that’s exactly the feeling I always get from them. With my Re-Dialers, I wanted all of those characteristics, but with a little more release and speed through the cutaway by making them more high-aspect. For the fronts, I wanted a slightly wider base and more curve instead of having them slanted back, while still keeping the same area. That’s where Chuck came in and really tuned them up. The fronts feel like they give me more fluid maneuverability, while the rears add a little more reckless release. It feels like the perfect combination — almost like an evolved performance version of my Elmore keel on a fish.
